Tourism thrives in the region with the Doak Historic Site and the Atlantic Salmon Museum leading the way. Other nearby attractions include the Priceville Footbridge, the longest suspension footbridge in New Brunswick, and Nelson Hollow Bridge, the oldest covered bridge in the province.
Industry in the village is natural resource, and tourism based. The Irving owned sawmill, outfitters, and angling resorts employ many in the area. Also, many locals are expert hunting and fishing guides to the thousands of sport fisherman that visit the area on an annual basis. With plenty of development-ready land available, it is an obvious choice for the rural developer.
The village also has plenty of other amenities, such as a community health centre staffed with two doctors, and two nurse practitioners. Doaktown also has a full pharmacy, dental services, and commercial fitness centres that serve the community's health care needs.
“Come for a visit. Better yet, come for longer” is a well known community slogan. There’s something about the village of Doaktown that makes people say “I’m home!”
